What is the Ember Mug 3?
The Ember Mug 3 is a heated smart mug that keeps your coffee or tea at the exact temperature you choose. A heater and temperature sensors are built into the mug, so instead of a drink that's too hot for five minutes and lukewarm for the next twenty, every sip stays where you like it. It comes in 10 oz and 14 oz sizes and sits on a charging coaster between sips.
What's new in Mug 3
- Temperature control on the mug. Press the button on the mug to set it. The Ember app is now optional.
- Dishwasher safe. Mug 3 goes on the top rack. Let it dry fully before charging.
- Sliding lid in the box. Ember says the lid stretches battery life to over 3 hours, compared with about 80 minutes without it.
- Battery LEDs. Lights show the battery level and temperature setting while it charges.
Who is it for?
The Ember Mug 3 is for slow sippers: people who pour a coffee, jump on a call, and come back to a cold mug. If you work at a desk all day, keep the coaster there and your drink stays warm until you finish it. It also makes an easy gift for the coffee or tea lover who has everything.
If you drink your coffee in ten minutes, you don't need it. A good insulated mug with a lid will do.
Our take
The Ember Mug 3 fixes the biggest complaints about earlier Ember mugs: needing the app to change the temperature, hand washing, and short battery life. The trade-off is price. It costs far more than a regular mug or a basic mug-warmer plate, so it's worth it if you really do let your drinks go cold every day.
How we reviewed it: this review is based on Ember's published specifications and our own research. We haven't run long-term hands-on tests yet, and we'll update this page when we do. Specs checked on ember.com in October 2026.
