What is the BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2?

The BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2 is a light bar that clamps to the top of your monitor. A front light shines down on your desk, and a backlight lights the wall behind the screen. It replaces the original ScreenBar Halo as BenQ's top monitor light. You control it with a wireless puck that sits on your desk.

What stands out

  • Light front and back. The tri-zone backlight softens the contrast between a bright screen and a dark room. BenQ says it covers 423% more area than the first Halo.
  • No glare on the screen. The front light uses an asymmetric optic with an 18 degree cut-off, so light lands on the desk instead of the display.
  • Fine control. Both lights have stepless brightness, and color temperature runs from 2700K to 6500K. The controller lasts up to 3 months per charge, according to BenQ.
  • Fits curved monitors. The clamp works on screens 0.43 to 6 cm thick and curves from 1000R to 1800R.
  • Smart extras. A presence sensor turns it on and off for you, and auto-dimming targets 500 lux on your desk.

Who is it for?

It's for people who work late or in dim rooms and get tired eyes from staring at a bright screen in the dark. It also suits small desks where a lamp would take up space, and curved-monitor owners who struggle to find a light bar that fits.

Skip it if your room is bright during the day and you rarely work at night. A cheaper light bar without a backlight, or no light bar at all, will do the job.

Our take

On paper, the Halo 2 covers the main reasons people buy a monitor light: even desk lighting, no screen glare, and less eye strain in a dark room. The backlight and wireless controller are what set it apart from simpler bars. The trade-off is cost, since it's premium-priced for a desk light. It makes the most sense if you spend long evenings at your desk.
